FAQs
How much will this cost me in addition to the trip cost?
Our goal is to make this as all inclusive as possible. However our itinerary has flexibility for families to be on their own for some meals. We expect that you will pay for meals out of your pocket about 3 or 4 times depending on your final itinerary. In addition to that, we do not cover alcohol or personal needs and souvenirs.
How big is the group size?
We need two families to take this trip. Depending on the families that is about 4-8 people.
What do I pack?
You will only need to bring personal clothing items. We will provide you with a recommended packing list to help guide your packing process.
How hot will it be?
Temperatures in January - March are in the 70s and 80s.
What types of accommodations will we have?
Families will share rooms in hotels, bed and breakfasts, and lodge-style housing. Accommodations are based on family occupancy. Single occupancy will be an additional $250 when available. We do our best to give you the space you need during your trip.
What ground transportation will we be taking?
We will be taking private transportation to and from all our activities.
Is this trip hard?
Not at all. This trip is an adventure trip so there will be adrenaline-pumping moments that might be a challenge but it is challenge by choice. Do what you can and try something new.
What will the food be like?
We will be eating like the locals! Costa Rica dishes are some of the best in the world. Well-known dishes are gallo pinto (Beans and Rice) or Casados which is a typical lunch of rice, beans, plantains, veggies or salad, chicken, fish, beef, or pork. Smoothies, local juices, and the best coffee! Dietary restrictions can be accommodated and for those of you that desire more familiar food, we can find that too at the stores and cook at home!
How do I handle the currency and money?
We suggest you have a credit card to do most of your purchases. This is the easiest way to use money in Costa Rica. You will be able to use American currency for everything as well although you will be getting the local currency as change. In our experience you do not really have to go get a currency exchange as most tips and services prefer the American dollar. If you do want to exchange your money we will help you do that at a bank in Costa Rica.
How many guides will we have?
There will be one Breakwater Guide and one Local Costa Rican guide throughout the trip with you. Breakwater will facilitate the entire trip flow and give support as needed to individuals. Your local guide has all you want to know about the area you are visiting.
What if my flight is delayed or canceled or something unexpected happens?
We recommend travel insurance and that all travelers have medical coverage. Trip insurance would need to be referred to for this circumstance. We are happy to talk to you further regarding this concern. We get it and we will do our best to support the situation with you if we can.
