Imagine spending a week exploring the wonders of Yellowstone National Park—geysers shooting steam into the sky, wildlife roaming freely, and stunning landscapes that seem pulled from another world. This 8-day adventure combines the thrill of hiking, camping, and discovery with the camaraderie of a small group of peers. Teens will visit iconic sites like Old Faithful and the Grand Prismatic Spring, trek through backcountry trails, and sleep under the stars in remote campsites. From observing bison grazing to soaking in Bozeman Hot Springs, every day is packed with moments of awe and connection.

But this trip is more than just outdoor fun—it's about growth. Through hands-on experiences and supportive guidance, teens will gain confidence, develop better communication skills, and learn to navigate the world with greater independence. As they work together to set up camp, share meals, and tackle new challenges, they’ll build lasting friendships and gain a deeper appreciation for the world and their place in it. Whether they're first-time campers or seasoned adventurers, every participant will leave with stories to tell, lessons learned, and memories that will last a lifetime.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Orientation
Arrive at Bozeman Airport by 1 p.m., where your guides and group will be waiting to greet you. From there, we’ll head to West Yellowstone and set up camp for the night. This evening, we’ll get to know our gear, guides, and fellow adventurers while preparing for the journey ahead.

Day 2: Wildlife Exploration
After breakfast, we’ll visit the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center to learn about Yellowstone’s iconic wildlife. After lunch, we’ll travel to our first campsite along the Madison River, settling in for a peaceful evening surrounded by nature.

Day 3: Old Faithful and Backcountry Camping
The day begins with a visit to Old Faithful and the visitor center to witness this famous geyser in action. After lunch, we’ll hike a few miles to our first backcountry campsite, nestled along a river with geyser steam visible in the distance. Tonight, we’ll explore our surroundings and look for wildlife.

Day 4: Hiking and Geysers
Today’s hike takes us through geyser fields and forested hills to our next backcountry site. After setting up camp, we’ll take a day hike to Fairy Falls and Spray Geysers. As evening falls, we’ll enjoy a stunning sunset over the vast Yellowstone landscape.

Day 5: Scenic Trails and Park Highlights
We’ll pack up and hike back to our vehicle, passing Goose Lake—keep an eye out for moose! After lunch, we’ll visit Yellowstone landmarks like Grand Prismatic Spring, Norris Geyser Basin, and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Our day ends with a short hike to our next backcountry campsite.

Day 6: Summit and Celebration
The adventure peaks today as we summit Observation Point. After setting up camp at the summit, we’ll celebrate our achievements with a memorable evening under the stars on our final night in the backcountry.

Day 7: Farewell to Yellowstone
Following breakfast, we’ll hike back to the trailhead and load up for one last tour of Yellowstone’s sights. On our way out, we’ll stop at Bozeman Hot Springs to shower, soak, and enjoy a pizza dinner together.

Day 8: Departure
Early morning, guides will ensure everyone arrives safely at the airport to catch their flights home.

All-inclusive, except for travel to and from Bozeman, Montana

  • Small Group Experience: Limited to 6 - 8 teens, ensuring personalized attention and a close-knit adventure.

  • Lodging: Enjoy camping in shared tents throughout the trip in front and backcountry environments.

  • Transportation: Our group will travel together from airport pickup to drop off on the last day.

  • Gear Provided: All necessary personal and group camping gear is included. A recommended packing list will be provided for personal clothing and items.

  • Meals & Snacks: Delicious, nutritious meals and snacks are provided for the entire trip. Dietary restrictions are happily accommodated.

  • Hiking and Backpacking: Our itinerary will include easy to moderate hiking. This will be with an expedition backpack (65L or larger) and with a day pack depending on the hike.

  • Guides: Two experienced and medically trained Breakwater guides will be with the group to ensure a safe, fun, and meaningful experience, offering support every step of the way.

1. How much supervision will the teens have during the trip?
Teens are supervised by our experienced guides throughout the entire trip. Guides are present during all activities, including meals, hikes, and campsite downtime. While we encourage independence and exploration within the group setting, safety and supervision are always our top priorities.

2. What’s the group dynamic like, and how do you foster a positive environment?
We focus on creating a supportive and inclusive group environment. Icebreaker activities on the first night help everyone feel comfortable, and our guides are skilled in fostering teamwork and respect throughout the trip. With a small group size, we prioritize relationship-building to ensure everyone feels connected and valued.

3. What happens if my teen gets homesick or struggles socially?
Our guides are trained to handle emotional challenges like homesickness or difficulty integrating into the group. We check in regularly with each teen, provide encouragement, and create opportunities for open communication. We also involve the group in fostering a supportive community, helping teens feel comfortable and included.

4. What happens in the event of bad weather?
We closely monitor weather conditions throughout the trip and adjust the itinerary as needed to ensure safety. Our gear is designed for a range of weather conditions, and we’re prepared with backup plans for activities. If necessary, we’ll adapt to indoor or alternative settings without compromising the overall experience.

5. What steps do you take to minimize environmental impact?
We adhere to Leave No Trace principles, teaching teens how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly. This includes packing out all waste, minimizing campsite impact, and using eco-friendly practices during activities. We also incorporate discussions about conservation to inspire stewardship of Yellowstone’s incredible ecosystem.
